Dr. Gregory Luhan to Conclude Tenure as Head of the Department of Architecture

Dr. Gregory Luhan will step down as head of the Department of Architecture on July 7 after five years of visionary and impactful leadership. Under his leadership, the department experienced significant growth and gained national recognition. It modernized both its physical and digital infrastructure, expanded academic programs, greatly increased external funding and made measurable improvements in student recruitment, retention and success.

A catalyst for innovation, Dr. Luhan spearheaded the launch of several strategic initiatives, including Texas’s first Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) program and the establishment of the Architecture + Industry Advisory Council (A+IAC) — both of which have become model platforms for professional preparedness and academic-industry collaboration. His efforts not only deepened engagement with global design leaders and industry partners but also elevated the department’s visibility and relevance on the national and international stage.

Dr. Luhan will continue to play a vital role in ensuring a smooth leadership transition and remains committed to advancing the department’s long-term goals and mission. His legacy is characterized by bold vision, collaborative spirit, and lasting impact. Dr. Luhan will then take a one-year development leave and assume the role of the Thomas A. Bullock Endowed Chair of Leadership and Innovation as the Director of the CRS Center at Texas A&M.

"I wholeheartedly support the transition in departmental leadership and will help ensure our department’s long-term continued success. I thank all my colleagues, current and former students, and staff for being part of this significant change and growth, as these efforts did not occur in isolation and required a collective effort to bring them to fruition," said Luhan.
