Student Impact

Nolanville’s Comprehensive Plan Update

Masters in Urban Planning students in PLAN 662 helped our team lead two meetings with Nolanville's local leaders and the public. Nolanville local leaders welcomed our team and students and showed us around their town to help us get a clear idea of the challenges, strengths, and opportunities for the future of Nolanville. The students are curating the update of Nolanville's Comprehensive Plan and discussing the current state of the comprehensive plan update in Housing and Neighborhoods, Economy, Community Facilities, Services and Infrastructure, Transportation, and Environment and Community Well-Being.

"The Master’s program at Texas A&M gave me the skills I needed, especially through courses like Applied Planning and Communications in Planning with Texas Target Communities. With training in GIS, comprehensive planning, and community engagement, I was able to land a Planner II position in Louisiana," said Windya Welideniya.

More Comprehensive Plans Finished!

Our team collaborated with faculty, students, and local community members to complete the latest round of Comprehensive Plan updates for both Liberty County and the City of Jefferson. We engaged directly with community stakeholders and task force leaders to develop plans tailored to each community's needs, creating frameworks that will support sustainable growth from within.

Land 621 - Open Space Land Use Planning II

Port Arthur is characterized by its strong community, rich history, and deep resilience, although it faces significant challenges, including frequent flooding, industrial air pollution, and safety concerns. Students in the Master's of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning program have been working diligently on the "Designing for Floods, Air Quality, and Safety in Port Arthur, TX" project, which addresses these issues by uniting with local stakeholders to develop innovative, nature-based strategies that enhance public health, environmental resilience, and community well-being through collaborative engagement with residents to create solutions that authentically reflect the city's needs, values, and aspirations. Thank you to the Port Arthur Planning team for welcoming us and collaborating with our program!
