Cooper Scholars

The Texas Target Communities Dr. John T. Cooper, Jr. Foundation Excellence Award is an endowed scholarship for worthy and deserving students from under-represented groups enrolled in Texas A&M University at College Station, Texas. Recipients will have an interest in community service, public engagement, or community development and seek careers that support the advancement of community-based organizations, local governments, or on-the-ground community change. The scholarship will be awarded for one year, but any recipient will still be eligible to reapply in subsequent years.

Juan Pina

“Through my experiences in Sand Branch and with RAYO Planning, I learned how powerful it is to amplify the voices of those in need. These moments confirmed that urban planning is not just a career for me, it’s a calling to serve and stand alongside underrepresented communities.”

Liz Pineda

"I would love to work in the planning of low-income neighborhoods by increasing safety and creating community-building opportunities. My dream is to help communities like Southwest Houston and Alief thrive through spaces that make families feel safe and connected."
