Southeast Texas Ubran Intergrated Field Lab
Our project, Listening to Port Arthur: Community Insights for a Resilient Future, was selected as the Winner in the Student Project category by the American Planning Association Texas Chapter. This prestigious recognition highlights the collaborative efforts of our team and the impactful work conducted with the Port Arthur community. Congrats to the MUP class of 2025!
Parrie Haynes
Students from LAND 311 connected with Parrie Haynes and presented powerful contributions that helped make the case for a new state park designation. Through research, site analysis, and design exploration, their work offers meaningful support for ongoing preservation efforts. We hope the Friends of Parrie Haynes can use these materials to help preserve the 4,500 acres for sustained public use and long-term stewardship.
The Town of Pine Island
Students from PLAN 661 partnered with the Town of Pine Island and showcased their creative designs, innovative engagement strategies, and community-driven ideas in support of the town’s first comprehensive plan. Over the course of the semester, the class conducted extensive community engagement efforts to help create this plan from the ground up. Students connected with residents door to door, facilitated engagement exercises, gathered survey data, and presented their findings to build a strong foundation for the Town of Pine Island’s first comprehensive plan.
Burton
Through the BAEN Capstone course, students partnered with the City of Burton to support local decision-making around critical wastewater infrastructure. Working alongside city leadership and technical partners, students helped map existing systems, assess capacity and growth impacts, and develop practical recommendations to strengthen long-term planning and position the city for future funding opportunities.
